First Post. Woot woot!

It's 12:30 in the morning where I am right now and so I have little energy left to going on a big introduction and explanation on why I made this blog. So, let's get to the point shall we. As per the title and description, this blog is supposed to help me keep myself in check while I'm attempting all the above. The past few weeks I've been arguing with myself on when exactly I should apply for my MBA; this year, or next year.....

GMAT Prep: First Steps...

Soooo......

Tomorrow I'm gonna be taking my first GMAT practice test, hopefully I'll do good. I tried out a few practice questions today and some of them are pretty tricky. One number was so easy that I literally LOL-ed because I got it wrong. I was thinking "Doh!". Then the image of Homer Simpson pop up in my head. Just have to do my best!

Once I've completed my initial test, the next things that I'll need to do are:
  • Assess my strengths and weaknesses, which I'll be able to do using that first practice test. And I'll be using another article from beatthegmat.com to guide me through the steps.
  • Make up a schedule. Based on the stuff in my first post about the timeline I came up with, I'm giving myself: 16 weeks for primary studying, 4 weeks for comprehensive review and 4.5 weeks of buffer time (between the 1st official test and the second - just in case, but I plan to get my target score on the 1st try! Fingers crossed :D ).
  • Get my study material - this might be tough since Indonesia isn't really the best place to look for these books, though, being in Jakarta I might get lucky and find something at one of the few foreign bookstores they have around here, including Kino Kuniya! In the mean time, I'll just leech of all the free resources online and see about ordering the books from Amazon.
  • And finally, come up with a specific study plan. The article I mentioned on Post 1 gives a good break down on how one should do this. But basically, I need to pick a time, 2 hours a day, 6 days a week to study. I'll be using this blog to keep track of what I plan to study for the week, review how I did during each study session, what I need to do better, my overall progress, etc. Once I feel I've made good progress, at least 2-3 weeks, I should take another CAT (computer adaptive test), see how I do, then repeat the study plan and adjust it accordingly. Lather-rinse-repeat.

It seems so far I'm on schedule, but maybe that's because I'm just getting started. Haha. Hope I keep it up!

GMAT Prep Plan for this week (week 0):
- Take 1st GMAT test
- Do a complete assessment on my test
- Continue gathering more resources online
- Hunt for GMAT books around here
- Try to come up with a study plan for week 1!

"For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helpings others." - Sam Levenson
